Summer at Green Ivy
Practical Strategies for Purposeful Learning™
✦ Virtual and In-Office Sessions | June 1 – August 14, 2026 ✦
Summer can be one of the most valuable — and most underused — stretches of a student's year. Without the constant pressure of daily schedules and deadlines, there's room to build, skills, gain confidence and feel excited for the school year ahead.
At Green Ivy, we've spent 25 years helping students make the most of their summer. This year, we’re in the office and ready to support students heading into middle school, working through high school, deep in college applications, or preparing for the leap to college campus. Our programs are designed to meet students exactly where they are right now.
Summer registration is open now.
Spots are limited and fill quickly — we encourage families to reach out early.

✍ Writing Coaching — Middle school & up to build the thinking skills AI can't replicate
In the age of AI, the students who know how to think — and write — are the ones who stand out.
We live in a world where AI can generate a paragraph in seconds, but it can't teach students to think clearly, build a real argument, or find their own voice. Writing is how students show what they know and who they are — in class, in their college applications, and well beyond. These skills matter more now than ever.
Writing coaching has been one of Green Ivy's signature offerings for nearly two decades, and every student we work with gets a one-on-one experience built around their needs and goals. Whether they're a reluctant writer who dreads every essay, a student who wants to sharpen skills they already have, or someone heading into application season who wants their voice to come through on the page… we can help.
What we work on:
- Grammar, mechanics, and self-editing strategies
- Idea development and essay structure
- Expository, persuasive, and creative writing
- Clarity, voice, and confidence across every format
How it works:
Before the first session, students complete a short questionnaire and submit two writing samples so we can hit the ground running. Sessions are offered in two formats: 5 sessions at 90 minutes each, or 8 sessions at 50 minutes each, and are available in-office or virtually.
Best for: Middle schoolers building foundational skills. High schoolers strengthening their academic writing. Any student who wants to head into the school year feeling confident on the page.
📐 Math & Science Tutoring — Algebra through Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
One of the most consistent patterns we see across middle and high school students right now is gaps in foundational math — and those gaps have a way of quietly compounding. A shaky understanding of Algebra shows up later in Geometry. Geometry shows up in Physics. Physics shows up in Chemistry. By the time a student hits a wall, it can feel like the subject is just "not for them" — when really, there's a specific concept or two that never quite landed.
Summer is the ideal time to change that. Without the pressure of daily assignments and upcoming tests, students can slow down, go back to where things got fuzzy, and actually build the understanding that makes the next level feel manageable rather than overwhelming. The difference between a student who dreads math and a student who feels confident in it is often just the right support at the right moment.
This summer, Green Ivy is offering one-on-one math and science tutoring for middle and high school students — working through all levels of math from foundational concepts through Calculus, as well as Chemistry and Physics, filling in the gaps that are holding them back.
Math — all levels through Calculus:
- Algebra I & II
- Geometry
- Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus
- Calculus (including AP Calculus AB and BC)
Science:
- Chemistry (including AP Chemistry)
- Physics (including AP Physics)
Sessions are personalized to each student's curriculum and learning style, available in-office. Tutoring pairs especially well with EF coaching for students who want both content support and stronger organizational habits going into the fall.
Best for: Students who want to get ahead before a challenging year. Students who struggled in math or science and want to close gaps before fall. Students preparing for AP exams, placement tests, or college coursework.
🗓 Executive Functioning (EF) Coaching — Middle school, high school & college
Organization, time management, and follow-through are skills that can be taught, practiced, and genuinely built over time. That's the foundation of the work Green Ivy founder Ana Homayoun has spent 25 years developing, researching, and writing about in books including That Crumpled Paper Was Due Last Week and Getting In Is Not Enough: The New Blueprint for Success Beyond Grades, Test Scores and College Admission.
What we've learned — from thousands of students across the country — is that when students develop the right systems for how they work best, everything changes. Grades improve, yes, and so does confidence. The nightly homework struggle eases. Students stop feeling like they're perpetually behind and start feeling like they have a handle on their lives. That's the transformation we're after, and summer is a great window to make it happen.
Green Ivy offers executive functioning coaching for students at every stage:
Middle School The jump to middle school is bigger than most students — and parents — expect. More teachers, more classes, more to keep track of, and a whole new social landscape on top of it. We help students build the organizational foundations that make it all feel navigable: how to manage a planner, stay on top of multiple assignments, handle digital distractions, and develop the self-awareness to know when they need help.
High School High school is full of opportunity, and it’s also full of pressure. Our coaching helps students identify their strengths, develop a personal blueprint for how they work best, and build the kind of resilience and self-management that will serve them long after graduation.
College Transition The shift to college catches a lot of students off guard. The built-in structure of high school disappears almost overnight, and suddenly everything — waking up, going to class, keeping up with assignments — is entirely on them. We work with rising college students over the summer to build the habits, systems, and self-advocacy skills they'll need before they need them, so the transition feels like an exciting new chapter rather than an overwhelming leap.
How it works:
Students begin with an introductory workshop, then continue with weekly 55-minute sessions. Each session helps students reflect on the week behind and plan for the week ahead and build habits through real practice
Best for: Students who struggle with starting tasks, following through, staying organized across subjects, or managing competing demands. (Which is most students, honestly.)
🎓 College Success & Transition Coaching — For students heading to campus this fall
Getting in is just the beginning. What happens next matters just as much.
The transition to college is one of the biggest shifts a young person navigates. Many students arrive on campus smart, capable, and completely unprepared for the level of independence the new environment requires. The structure of high school is gone. The built-in reminders disappear. And suddenly, it's all on them.
Our College Success & Transition Coaching program is designed to change that. We work with students starting the summer before they leave to help them build the habits, systems, and self-awareness they need. And, we continue to support them throughout freshman year and beyond.
Our work combines executive functioning coaching with practical life skills — nutrition, sleep, stress management — and real-time academic and personal goal setting. Think of it as a map for navigating a new world, built around each student specifically.
The program includes:
- Initial intake session covering schedule, campus resources, and goals
- Weekly sessions during the academic quarter or semester
- A structured framework that balances academics with wellbeing
- Monthly virtual drop-in office hours for extra support
- Ongoing guidance around course selection, career interests, and next steps
Best for: Incoming freshmen; students who found executive functioning challenging in high school; sophomore, junior and senior college students returning to campus after a difficult semester.
📋 Summer College Application Jumpstart — Rising high school seniors — one-on-one and small group
For over 25 years, Green Ivy has guided students through the college application process. Our Summer College Application Jumpstart is one of our most in-demand programs, and the results speak for themselves.
100% of students surveyed in exit surveys over the past five years said they were glad they did it. Every single one.
The summer between junior and senior year is the best window for making real progress on college applications. School is out. The pressure is lower. And students who use this time well walk into senior year ahead, instead of spending October scrambling.
Our four day college application jumpstart acts as a bootcamp to guide students through the full arc of the application process: developing a thoughtful college list, drafting a compelling personal statement, getting a head start on supplemental essays, and building the organizational system to keep it all moving. The work is personalized, strategic, and — we're told — a lot less painful than going it alone.
Available in two formats:
- One-on-one: Fully personalized sessions with a dedicated Green Ivy college advisor
- Small group: Collaborative cohort setting with peer feedback and shared momentum
What we cover:
- College list strategy and research
- Personal statement brainstorming, drafting, and revision
- Supplemental essay strategy and early drafts
- Application timeline and organizational systems
- Teacher recommendation and counselor guidance
Best for: Rising seniors, especially those students who want real guidance beyond what their school counselor has capacity to provide.
